Raj Subramaniam, Ph.D. is a medical device entrepreneur, inventor, and executive leader with more than 30 years of experience in healthcare technology innovation, corporate strategy, and business growth. He currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of VizaraMed, Inc., where he led the development and commercialization of the FDA-cleared Multiflex™ Steerable Sheath platform, and is a co-founder of DRS Vascular, Inc.
Dr. Subramaniam brings extensive expertise in corporate governance, strategic planning, product development, regulatory affairs, capital formation, mergers and acquisitions, and commercialization of medical technologies. Throughout his career, he has successfully guided multiple cardiovascular and minimally invasive technologies from concept through regulatory approval and market adoption. An accomplished entrepreneur and innovator, Dr. Subramaniam has raised more than $50 million in venture financing and is named on over 60 U.S. patents spanning cardiovascular devices, bio-materials, advanced coatings, manufacturing technologies, and biotechnology innovations. His experience includes leadership roles in both startup and publicly traded medical technology companies, providing valuable insight into innovation, risk management, operational execution, and shareholder value creation.
Dr. Subramaniam holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Kent State University and has served as an Adjunct Professor at California State University, East Bay. He remains active in mentoring entrepreneurs and emerging technology leaders while contributing strategic guidance to organizations focused on healthcare innovation.
With more than 20 years of experience in medical device innovation, product development, and technology leadership, Zaya has built a distinguished career advancing cardiovascular, structural heart, and peripheral vascular technologies from concept through commercialization. His expertise spans both global medical technology companies and venture-backed startups, providing a unique combination of technical depth, strategic leadership, and product commercialization experience.
Zaya began his career at Boston Scientific, where he progressed from R&D Engineer to Senior R&D Engineer and contributed to the development of advanced cardiac ablation catheter technologies. During his tenure, he gained extensive experience in the design, development, verification, validation, and commercialization of complex cardiovascular medical devices. He later joined Abbott as a Lead Senior R&D Engineer, leading cross-functional product development programs for innovative cardiovascular devices.
In the startup environment, Zaya played a key role in developing a transcatheter mitral valve repair system at Middle Peak Medical before its acquisition by Symetis. He subsequently held leadership positions as R&D Manager at Polares Medical and Director of R&D at Encompass Vascular, where he directed engineering teams, product strategy, innovation programs, and technology development efforts.
Throughout his career, Zaya has successfully led multidisciplinary teams in the development of complex medical devices, combining strong technical expertise with proven leadership in product innovation, regulatory strategy, risk management, and commercialization.Zaya holds a B.S. in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.S. in Biomedical Devices from San Jose State University
Miriam Taimisto has more than 30 years of experience in the medical device industry having worked in both start-up and large organizations. Miriam holds 39 US patents, has four publications, and brings a world of experience related to diagnostic and therapeutic devices.
Prior to VizaraMed, Miriam was COO at CorVent Medical where she got the company Emergency Use Authorization and the CE Marking during her first year of employment. Prior to Corvent, Miriam worked at Cibiemas their Vice President of R&D developing a system to treat hypertension using ultrasound to ablate the carotid body. Prior experiences include: Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics (ACTnow Epix) where Miriam served as their Vice President of R&D, Sr VP of R&D and Operations at Aragon Surgical (acquired by Aesculap), Vice President of R&D at BÂRRX Medical (acquired by Covidien), Vice President at Cierra, Inc., and several years as Director of R&D at Boston Scientific, Electrophysiology.
Other industry experience also includes various engineering roles at Baxter, Guidant, and CardioGenesis. In her current role, Miriam oversees the quality department. Miriam has a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of Wisconsin.
Jack P Douglas, PhD VP, Regulatory Affairs has worked in the medical device industry since 1988 for various large and small companies, with roles in regulatory and clinical affairs.He has served on new product development teams for products such as interventional cardiovascular catheters, electro-physiology catheters, endometrial ablation devices, contact lenses and biologics. His experience includes successful submissions to national and international regulatory agencies for clinical investigations and market approvals. He is a graduate of Oregon State University (BS), UC at Davis (MS), and the University of Texas Medical Branch (PhD).
As a Managing Partner for SPRIG Equity, Evan is on several MedTech boards and operates the investment firm, SPRIG Equity. Prior to founding SPRIG Equity, he was a General Partner at Accelmed Partners and spent a decade leading Abbott Ventures. Prior to Abbott, Evan was a Principal with ONSET Ventures and had operating roles with Acclarent (acquired by J&J), J&J Lifescan and Stryker Endoscopy. He also worked for the Investment Banking Group at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co and at Price Waterhouse Coopers. An adjunct professor at Kellogg, Evan serves on the Innovation and New Ventures Advisory Board, N.XT Fund investment committee and as an advisor to the Querrey InQbation Lab at Northwestern University.
Dr. Michael Lesh is the CEO and founder of Quench, addressing physician burnout and medical record review using generative AI. He also founded Syntegra, which provides privacy-preserved synthetic data to enable medical data sharing. Dr. Lesh is an independent director at Elucid Bioimaging, known for its non-invasive AI-based image analysis software for coronary and carotid plaque morphology and FFRCT. He serves as executive chairman of Cordance Medical, developing non-invasive trans-cranial focused ultrasound for treating cancer, Alzheimer’s, and other brain disorders. Additionally, Dr. Lesh is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine and former Chief of Cardiac Electro-physiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
He was the founder and CEO of Appriva, where he commercialized his invention of PLAATO, the first left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) device, later acquired by EV3.. Dr. Lesh, who invented the pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) method for atrial fibrillation ablation, also founded Atrionix, subsequently acquired by Johnson & Johnson (JNJ). Dr. Lesh was founder and CEO of Middle Peak Medical which developed a percutaneous mitral valve repair device. He is on the board of several early stage companies, mentors young entrepreneurs, and advises through the UCSF Catalyst translational accelerator. Dr. Lesh's academic background includes biomedical engineering and computer science from MIT, along with medical training at UCSF and the University of Pennsylvania. He is an author of over 200 scientific papers, book chapters, and books, and is inventor on 250 patents issued and applied for.
